Horror Games We Love #2

I have already posted about Amnesia: The Dark Descent and on the same post I mentioned I would be doing further posts about other Frictional Games' releases. This is one of them. The game I'll write about here this time is Amnesia: Justine, an extension for the original one.

If you loved The Dark Descent and was craving for more, Justine certainly was a gift for you. Although not being a totally new game, it feels like it. The story is new, at least, and for the most attentive players, it intertwines with the plot of Dark Descent.

This time around you wake up in a dungeon and have as your guide a female voice through phonographs, that introduces herself as Justine. As always, you have to explore the place and try not to be seen or caught by the... By them. I don't like to spoil the surprises.

As a new factor, you also have to save three people imprisoned. Or not. The storyline gets darker and darker until you begin to understand what is actually happening. It is not a long game, I would say it's only 1/4 of the Descent duration. The only difficulty is the first gameplay, because it cannot be saved, as you're soon advised. To make it worse, and kind of to compensate the duration of it, it is way harder than Descent. So if you die, that's it. Start all over again.

The "potato room" got famous among the fans and the ending is somewhat awesome, when we finally discover what Justine was talking about when she cited her cabinet of perturbation. Be prepared.

This game only made me love more and more Frictional Games, and it is a shame to hear that their new game won't be a horror one. But let's wait and see.
